Breeding

The normal gestation period is 63 days from the time of conception. This may vary if the female has been bred two or three times or if the eggs are fertilized a day or two after the mating has taken place. Eggs remain fertile for about 48 hours. Sperm can live in the vaginal tract for several days. In order to determine if a female is pregnant, a veterinarian can manually determine pregnancy.

We use the services of the Sanford Animal Hospital to determine pregnancy if necessary, artificial insemination, collection or semen, and other breeding services.

We require the dog 3-4 days before the female goes into heat for preparation. We will have 7 days to perform a successful breed, if the assistance of the Sanford Animal Hospital is required you will be notified of cost and for approval.
